THE Oscar-winning Iranian film The Salesman will be Ilkley Film Society's next screening on Sunday, January 21 (8pm at Ilkley Playhouse).

Amateur actors and married couple Emad and Rana are preparing for the opening night of a production of Arthur Miller's classic play, Death Of A Salesman, in Tehran. When dangerous construction work near their home forces them to move into another flat, a case of mistaken identity involving the previous tenant throws their lives into turmoil, and a series of wrong turns threatens their marriage.

Director Asghar Farhadi specialises in stories built around moral dilemmas and unforeseen consequences, and this is the third of his thought-provoking films to be shown by the Film Society, following A Separation (also an Oscar-winner) and About Elly. As well as its Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, The Salesman also won the Best Actor and Best Screenplay prizes at the Cannes Film Festival.

Non-members are welcome as guests (£4) but their admission cannot be guaranteed unless they reserve tickets in advance by phoning Dave Howell on 01943 430097. More information about the Ilkley Film Society season visit www.ilkleyfilmsociety.org.uk
