WHEN the lights have dimmed, you shuffle in your seat and ease back once more. Shortly after the action starts a problem arises, and from this problem the rest of the story unfolds. Sometimes the protagonist finds themself in a tricky love situation; perhaps a threatening character enters upon the scene; ordinary people find themselves in an extraordinary situation. But how about all three?

Such is the setting for Role Play, the third play in Alan Ayckbourn’s Damsels in Distress trilogy. Opening at a dinner party hosted by mismatched couple, Justin and Julie-Ann, who are planning to announce their engagement to their parents, the evening turns out to be full of surprises. Lap-dancer Paige, on the run from her gangland boyfriend, drops in on the party closely followed by her minder, wielding a gun!

An ordinary evening soon descends into a nightmare with a succession of absurd events in this fast-paced dark comedy. The hilarious twists and turns will spirit you into the New Year. And don’t forget: theatre tickets make great Christmas presents!

Join us for the Role Play dinner party on the Wednesday, January 17 with repeat servings until January 27.

Elsewhere, there are still a few tickets available for Peter Pan, the Junior Greenroom’s production of JM Barrie’s classic tale. There will be two matinee performances starting at 2pm on January 14 and 15. Peter Pan is on Saturday and Sunday, January 13 and 14 at 2pm. Role Play Wednesday, January 17 to Saturday, January 27.
