GREGORY’S Girl has been entertaining Playhouse audiences this week; if you want to join us for an evening of football, teenage love set to a backdrop of classic 80’s tracks then there may be a few seats left for the last three nights. The final performance is on Saturday, December 16 and it is sure to bring the house down!

Earlier that day, from 9.30am to be precise, we open our doors for Ilkley Playhouse’s annual Christmas coffee morning. Entry is free, and it’s a perfect way to start a Saturday of shopping with a hot drink and a mince pie to bolster your Christmas spirits (alternatively, it’s a perfect way to hide from the aforementioned).

Along with festive food and stalls, there will be performances by our Greenroom drama classes, with Junior, Senior and Adult Greenroom performances at 10am, 11.15am, and 12.30pm respectively.

The Junior and Senior Greenroom performances are devised by the students themselves and are appropriately based on a seasonal theme. The Adult Greenroom performance, meanwhile, will feature a variety of Shakespearian extracts.

If you are walking round Ilkley of an evening admiring the Christmas lights you may also notice the lights twinkling in Ilkley Playhouse. We have two other productions in rehearsal ready to divert and delight you. On Saturday and Sunday, January 13 and 14 there are two matinee performances of Peter Pan. This children’s classic is brought to the stage by our Junior Greenroom actors, directed by Andrew Leggott and choreographed by Lisa Debney. This is already a popular show to book for and would make a perfect Christmas present, it’s advisable to book soon before the tickets fly away.

Finally, to further the laughter in the dark weeks after Christmas, Alan Ayckbourn’s Role Play takes to the stage. This contemporary comedy centres around a dinner party in the Docklands where Justin and Julie-Ann are planning to announce their engagement to their parents. The in-laws are meeting for the first time: her intolerant northern parents and his alcoholic Surrey mother.

This unpredictable evening veers completely off course with the arrival, during a rainstorm, of a lap-dancer on the run from her violent boyfriend, closely followed by her gun-toting minder. What happens next? Join us in January for the hilarious and poignant conclusion.

Gregory’s Girl runs until December 16; Christmas Coffee Morning Saturday, December 16; Peter Pan Saturday - January 13 and 14 at 2.00pm; Role Play Wednesday 17 to Saturday, January 27.
