THE air was full of true Northern Soul and Motown beats at The Hollygarth on Leeds Road, Ilkley on November 5.

Over 85 people came to enjoy an afternoon and early evening of original, energetic dance classics all played on vinyl by some of the best DJs around.

Guest DJs were Mike Harris from Harrogate and Phil Dick from Bradford. Many of the people there had come especially to hear them play their own particular selections of rare and special sounds on vinyl.

Everyone enjoyed listening and dancing to the soundtrack of their youth from some 40 years ago.

Northern Soul music is enjoying a massive renaissance at the moment. Enthusiasts who were dancing to this music in their teens at places such as Manchester's Twisted Wheel in Manchester, The Golden Torch in Stoke-on-Trent and of course Wigan Casino and Blackpool Mecca are spending a lot of their weekends once again dancing to these musical memories. Almost every town and city, particularly in the North of England and even further afield, has a Northern Soul event on a regular basis. The movement is actually bigger now than it was in the '70s.

Ilkley Soul Club's next event is on Sunday, December 3 at The Hollygarth on Leeds Road, Ilkley, from 3pm to 8pm with guest DJ Neil Grainger (Clitheroe Soul Club and Ribble FM’s Soultime Show)
