BRITISH Folk stars The Furrow Collective are coming to Otley Courthouse.

The band, winners of the Best Group title in this year's BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, will take the stage at the arts venue on Sunday, November 5.

The critically claimed outfit consists of four distinctive and talented performers from England and Scotland who were drawn together by a shared love of the traditional songs and balladry of both countries, and beyond.

The Collective comprises Lucy Farrell on viola and saw, Rachel Newton on harp and fiddle, Emily Portman on banjo and concertina, and Alasdair Roberts on guitars - with all of them also taking on singing duties.

The band's 2014 debut album, At Our Next Meeting, was recorded with award-winning producer Andy Bell and hailed as a triumph of collaboration.

They have aimed for even fuller, richer arrangements with their second album, Wild Hog, which features guest musicians Alex Neilson (from Trembling Bells) on drums and Stevie Jones (Sound of Yell) on double bass.

Each member of The Furrow Collective leads different songs, regaling the audience with everything from tales of ailing horses to supernatural ballads and poignant laments.

Their Otley performance begins at 8pm and tickets cost £14.

They can be booked by visiting otleycourthouse.org.uk, calling (01943) 467466 or popping into the Courthouse, on Courthouse Street.
