BRADFORD Festival Choral Society will be performing Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius at Bradford Grammar School at 7.30pm on Saturday, November 18

This will be another concert with Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra with whom the choral society are developing an exciting partnership. In June they came together to sing Mahler’s 2nd Symphony.

The solo parts will be sung by the outstanding singers Peter Davoren (tenor), Hannah Mason (mezzo soprano) and Keel Watson (bass). All of them sing with national companies such as the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and Opera North.

Elgar will be well known to many people for the Enigma Variations, Pomp and Circumstance Marches and the famous Cello Concerto.

The Dream of Gerontius is less well known but is widely thought to be his finest work and is considered one of the greatest British choral masterpieces.

Tom Leech, the choir’s musical director said: "The Dream of Gerontius is a wonderful composition which gives the choir the chance to show off its ability to sing with warmth and vitality.”

Maggie Eisner, the BFCS chair added: “This is a really challenging work to sing but as our rehearsals progress we are amazed at the wonderful sound we are starting to make.

"Opportunities to hear this piece are few and far between so coming to the concert on November 18th is a not to be missed opportunity. The evening will be enhanced by a free talk about the concert by Tom Leech at 6.45pm."

Tickets are available £16, £14 and £60 for groups of 5. Under 18s are free as part of the choir’s aim to encourage younger people to enjoy choral singing. They can be bought on the choir’s website www.bradfordfestivalchoralsociety.ork.uk or purchased on the night
