Clare Teal
and her Mini Big Band
King's Hall, Ilkley
Friday 10th November 2017 at 7.30pm
The much loved jazz star returns to Ilkley following her recent televised BBC Proms concert from London's Royal Albert Hall. As Britain's Queen of Swing, Clare Teal's concerts have become renowned for their wit and exuberance. This prolific recording artist presents her own BBC Radio 2 shows and has released fourteen albums to huge critical acclaim
The Kildwick born jazz singer, broadcaster and (incidentally) Yorkshire Post columnist will be backed in the King's Hall by her seven-piece Mini Big Band.
Clare will perform swinging, emotional and characterful songs accompanied by a starry ensemble of UK jazz greats. Her King's Hall programme is sure to include homage to Ella Fitzgerald - the original First Lady of Swing. 2017 would have witnessed the Jazz Diva's 100th Birthday. Clare writes on her blog: "Ella could do it all. She had a wonderful warm tone, incredible range, ridiculous dexterity, and the ability to improvise like a demon".
Award winning singer Matthew Ford will be joining Clare for this eagerly awaited Ilkley performance. Matt has been a featured soloist with John Wilson and his fabulous orchestra at the BBC Proms plus their annual visits to Leeds Town Hall and Harrogate International Festival.
The King's Hall audience is likely to be treated to Matt's honeyed tones in tributes to Irving Berlin, Gene Kelly, and Frank Sinatra. Since the legendary crooner's centenary in 2015, Matt's touring show, Intimate Sinatra, has been delighting Ol' Blue Eyes afficionados everywhere.
So, sit back and enjoy the greats of the Swing era with some contemporary classics and, perhaps, a few surprises..
Clare Teal and her Mini Big Band play the King's Hall on Friday 10th November at 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale now from Ilkley Visitor Information Centre tel 01943 602319, or from Friends of the King's Hall at friendshandwg.ilkley.org
