A NEW stage production of Roald Dahl’s children’s novel Fantastic Mr Fox is coming to Bradford Alhambra.

The musical adaptation is described as a wondercrump treat for the whole family and a playful re-telling of the much-loved book.

The “brilliantly witty” tale, told through live music and songs, shows how the clever Mr Fox outfoxes three greedy farmers,

Published in 1970, the book was turned into a film in 2009 by Wes Anderson, starring George Clooney in the title role, and was nominated for an Oscar.

The latest production was created to mark the Roald Dahl 100 celebrations last year.

Luke Kelly, managing director the Roald Dahl Literary Estate and Roald Dahl’s grandson says: “We’re excited to be working with such an accomplished partner as Nuffield Theatre to bring Fantastic Mr Fox to the stage in this brand new musical version.

“We are delighted that so many people across the UK will be able to see it during the 2017 tour.”

The story revolves around a tricky, clever fox named Mr Fox who lives underground beside a tree with his wife and four children.

In order to feed his family, he makes nightly visits to farms owned by three wicked, cruel and dim-witted farmers named Boggis, Bunce and Bean.

Tired of being outsmarted by Mr Fox, the evil farmers devise a plan to ambush him as he leaves his burrow, but they succeed only in shooting off his tail.

The farmers dig up the Foxes’ burrow, and surround Mr Fox’s hole and wait until he is hungry enough to come out.

With his family starving, Mr Fox devises a plot to acquire food, teaming up with a host of other animals to ensure they well and truly outwit Boggis, Bunce, and Bean.
