THE EXCITEMENT was tangible at Yeadon Town Hall when the curtain went up for Scala Kids Live 2017 last weekend.

Sixty energetic youngsters performed fully costumed and choreographed extracts from eight musicals in this year’s production. No mean feat considering the wardrobe of more than 200 costumes, numerous introductory speeches, full company and solo dance routines and songs, music, props and scenery had all been put together and rehearsed in one week. The songs and dances of all styles blended seamlessly throughout the fast paced show, all beautifully sung and seemingly without a step out of place.

Musicals featured included Grease with Tilly Ducker and William Sammon, Elf the Musical, Trolls, My Fair Lady with Sophie Downham and Dominic Pierechod, Sister Act with Eleanor Hemingway, Alex and Hannah Wilkinson, Finding Neverland with Mia Speight and Jerram Bishop, Half A Sixpence with Connor Elliott, Abbie McHale and Charlotte Carr, and Shadowlands featuring the Senior Dancers.

Scalakids Live! Expertly directed by Louise Denison with first class support from musical director Jim Lunt. A large team of volunteers assisted and proceeds from the show go to Martin House children’s hospice.
