THREE film icons, Sir Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel and Jane Fonda appear together for the first time in Youth, Ilkley Film Society's next screening on Sunday, June 4 (8pm, Ilkley Playhouse).
Two old friends, a composer and a film director, are on holiday in an Alpine hotel. Both have illustrious pasts, but they have very different desires for their remaining years. The composer (Caine) is resisting offers to revive his work; the director (Keitel) is desperate to make a comeback movie with his favourite actress (Fonda). Caine and Keitel (combined age 158) bring all their experience to a warm and often witty meditation on things past.
Youth is the second English-language film by the outstanding Italian director Paolo Sorrentino, whose Oscar-winner The Great Beauty was shown by the Film Society in 2015.
Non-members are requested to reserve tickets (£4) by phoning Dave Howell on 01943 430097 and should email membership@ilkleyfilmsociety.org.uk with their contact details if they are interested in enrolling for the next season.
