ROMEO and Juliet, the world’s most famous love story, opened last night at Ilkley Playhouse eliciting a wide range of reactions within the auditorium. The rush of young love was beautifully portrayed, mesmerising the younger members of the audience whilst eliciting a ripple of nostalgic sighs from our older visitors. Powerfully choreographed fight scenes prompted gasps and exclamations, whilst the wonderful, live music and dance performances brought the entire production – and audience – to life! Whether you are a young Romeo, a wistful Juliet or a more seasoned fan of the Bard, this fresh, unique portrayal of Shakespeare’s tragic tale of star-cross’d lovers should not be missed. Romeo and Juliet runs until Saturday, March 18 and tickets are still available – if you’re quick!

The theme of feuding families is mirrored in our next Fringe production, The God of Carnage, which runs in the Wildman Theatre from Thursday, March 23 until Saturday, March 25. Written by Yasmina Reza, author of the multi award-winning Art, this biting social satire centres on a meeting between two sets of parents to discuss a playground incident that has taken place between their young sons. Both couples are sophisticated professionals and the encounter begins politely enough...but it is not long before tensions emerge. Expect a brutally comic dissection of bourgeois values, powerful direction and commanding performances. This production will stay with you for a long time it come.

Romeo and Juliet runs until Saturday, March 18 with a matinee performance on Saturday, March 11. The God of Carnage runs from Thursday, March 23 to Saturday, March 25.
