RED DRAGONFLY Productions, a West Yorkshire theatre company, is presenting an evening of new writing by emerging writers of Asian origin.

The Taking Flight Festival will be at the Seven Artspace in Leeds on February 11, and features three new plays.

Red Dragonfly were responsible for the critically-acclaimed DiaoChan and The Autumn of Han and six months ago launched Taking Flight, a competition aimed at new plays from writers within the British East Asian, South Asian and South East Asian communities.

Ketchup, by Sammy Wong, is a humorous look at identity to a British woman whose mother is Vietnamese.

Hema Anjali, by Chandni Lakhani, sees bride Anjali setting her teenage sister the responsibility of honouring an old family tradition.

Joan C Guyll’s play 100% of Nothing is Nothing sees a girl returning to Singapore for her father’s funeral.
