HOW lovely, on a cold January evening, to hear the sounds of warmer times trickling down from the Wharfeside Theatre. Birds tweeting, bees buzzing and a wonderful set complete with lawn, flowers and a babbling brook have transported our audiences this week to a vicarage garden in the height of summer. Entertaining Angels has been delighting visitors with its clever mix of witty one liners and heart-breaking poignancy. A wonderful study of both the funny and fraught moments of family relationships, this production has had audience members constantly reaching for their hankies. Each night, visitors have commented how they have been crying with laughter one moment, only to be moved to tears five minutes later. There are still a few tickets available for our last three nights, if you move fast. Don’t delay - this is one production it would be a real shame to miss. Just make sure you have a few tissues at the ready!

Next in our season is the wonderful Di, Viv and Rose, written by Amelia Bullmore, prolific writer for TV and Radio and creator and start of ITV’s Scott & Bailey. An effervescent and sharply-observed comedy, this production crackles with wisdom and wit as it explores the impact of friendship on the lives of three women at University – and the impact of life on their friendship. With well-observed contrasting characterisations and frank, funny dialogue – this contemporary coming-of-age story will be presented in the Wildman for added intimacy and intensity.

Entertaining Angels runs until Saturday, January 28. Di, Viv and Rose runs from Tuesday, February 7 until Saturday, February 11.
