ILKLEY Players’ final presentation of the season is Graham Linehan’s comedy The Ladykillers.

The play started life as an Ealing Studios black comedy with a memorable cast including Alec Guinness and a very young Peter Sellers. Linehan is the highly regarded author of comedy classic including Father Ted, Black Books and The IT Crowd.

In The Ladykillers we meet Mrs Wilberforce (played by Kay Vann) the innocent old lady who becomes involved with a gang of dangerous robbers when they rent a room in her house. Wise to their plans she threatens to call the police, prompting the robbers to try and keep her quiet…

On the rigours of directing the play, director Rachel Conyers, said: “Linehan’s script has created some serious challenges for potential directors.

"Make no mistake it’s not an easy play to stage! Fortunately the whole team has risen to the challenge and we hope the audiences enjoy this production as much as we have enjoyed bringing it to them.”

The play runs from July 6 to 18 at 7.30pm with a matinee only on Saturday, July 11 at 2.30pm. Tickets £11/£9.

The band Fire and Rain will be performing on Friday, July, 3 at 7.30pm. Fire and Rain are a collection of five talented musicians who perform music from artists James Taylor and Carole King. They are supported by vocals on this one-off tour by Gracie Falls. Unreserved seating, tickets £10.
