TRAVEL writer and author William Atkins will be reading from his book The Moor at the Bronte Parsonage in Haworth this week.
The Moor: Lives, Landscape, Literature follows a journey on foot through Britain’s moorlands from the south west tip in Cornwall to the Scottish borders.
The account is both travelogue and natural history, as well as an exploration of moorland’s uniquely captivating position in our literature, history and psyche.
In this event, William Atkins focuses on moorland literature, bringing in literary works such as Wuthering Heights, Hound of the Baskervilles and Lorna Doone.
William visited Haworth when he was writing his book, which includes a description of his walk to Top Withens with local historian Steven Wood.
He later repeated the walk with Mariella Frostrup for BBC Radio 4’s Open Book programme, and discussed the literary importance of the site.
Tickets for the talk tomorrow at 7.30pm are £6.
