WITH just three (sell-out) performances remaining of its run, The History Boys has been yet another success for Ilkley Players.

The director, Miranda Armitage, can feel justifiably delighted with the cast who have done Alan Bennett’s work proud.

The forthcoming events at the Playhouse offer a variety of entertainment for all ages. Ilkley Players member David Higgins has compiled a Big Quiz and entrants can take part in a variety of brain teasers ranging from the arts and geography to film and history. So why not get a team together on Saturday, April 18 and pit your wits against the Ilkley intelligentsia? The fun starts at 8pm, tickets £8 per person to include a supper. Ilkley Playhouse is re-discovering a vast wardrobe department of unique fashions from ball gowns to fancy dress, which is currently being catalogued. We are holding a Vintage Fair in the Sheridan Suite on Saturday, April 18 from 10am to 4pm to launch our new costume-hire website. Check out facebook.com/ilkleycostumes for a preview. Charlie Oswain (hair and make-up artist) will be on hand to do vintage make-overs. Admission £1, under 16s free.

The same evening marks the return of the popular Stagefright Comedy Club. A great line up has been assembled to bring you a cornucopia of comedy. Bafta award-winning Jim Tavare is headlining the evening, he is joined by Londoner, Bilal Zafar and award-nominated writer Tom Short. Compere for the night is Kate MacCabe. Tickets are £12, bar opens at 7pm, laughs from 8pm.

The next Fleapit Cinema will be screening The Imitation Game on Sunday, May 3 at 2pm. This is another chance to see this Oscar-nominated film which sold out at the recent Ilkley Film Festival. Based on the biography Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges it stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the British cryptanalyst Alan Turing, who helped solve the Enigma code during the Second World War and was later prosecuted for homosexuality. Tickets £5, including tea and cake.

Finally, tickets are on sale for the next main stage production, Ding Dong by Marc Camoletti. This comedy is based on the French play Sexe et Jalousie. Bernard has discovered that his wife Jacqueline is having an affair with Robert. Being a reasonable businessman, Bernard gives Robert two options to compensate for the affair: either he will sleep with Robert’s wife in order to keep things even, or he will have him killed!

For ten nights from April 29 to May 9 at 7.30pm with a matinee only on Saturday, May 2 at 2.30pm.
