AS part of Ilkley Summer Festival’s month-long line-up of events, La Casita will be showcasing a live paella cooking demonstration this Sunday, 24 August, from 16.00 to 18.00, at the town’s bandstand.
Head chef and proprietor, Simon Miller, will be taking to the marquee stage to create a seafood, chicken and pork paella from start to finish. Simon will be talking through the cooking process, giving tips on the best vegetables, herbs & spices, meat cuts and seafood to use. Cooked and served from the bar’s traditional paella pan, the theatre-filled demonstration will be open to the public and free to attend.
Audience participation will be rewarded with free tasting dishes of the finished paella as well as other highlights from the tapas bar’s menu. Festival goers will have the opportunity to pair Spanish wines with a smorgasbord of La Casita’s favourite charcuterie, chorizo and cheese.
Simon commented: “We recently invested in a large traditional paella pan for the bar so when we signed up to be involved in the Ilkley Summer Festival, we figured this would be a fun way to showcase the paella-making process and give people the chance to put the dish through its paces.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to the live demonstration on Sunday and we hope the event and, more importantly, the food will be a great way for people to sample our passion for authentic Spanish cooking.”
Paella Sundays
La Casita hopes that Sunday’s paella showcase will be the warm up to its new weekly paella fiesta. Every Sunday, the tapas bar, which is located on the mezzanine level of Ilkley’s Victorian Arcade, will host ‘Paella Sundays’ from 16.30 to 20.00. In addition to the usual tapas menu, customers will also be able to try a different paella each week, all freshly prepared by Simon, and available as individual portions or as large dishes for groups to share.
