‘Coming soon’ boards have gone up outside Bellway’s new Scalebor Grange development, off Moor Lane in Burley-in-Wharfedale, which occupies part of the site of the former Scalebor Park Hospital.

Over the next few months Bellway will be building a mix of 37 three and four-bedroom premium family homes on the 2.5-acre site, which has laid derelict since the hospital closed in 2009.

Ross Clarkson, Bellway Yorkshire’s regional sales manager, said: “Burley-in-Wharfedale has the kind of quaint and rural feel you expect of a Wharfedale village and we feel it is imperative that our homes, and the site as a whole, reflect the look and the feel of the surrounding area.”

Building work began earlier this month and Bellway anticipates that its on-site sales office will open in May, with the first homes scheduled for completion towards the end of the year. “We are really excited to be building here in Burley-in-Wharfedale,” added Ross.

“The selection of exclusive townhouses, semi-detached and detached homes on this relatively small development offer great choice for a range of different buyers, and I truly believe that Scalebor Grange will provide an idyllic setting for those choosing to live here, as well as being a welcome change for existing Burley residents who have had to put up with an abandoned eyesore of a site for such a long period of time.”

Part of the former hospital site is already a well-established residential site, having being developed several years ago.

Prices for the properties on Scalebor Grange are expected to be announced in May.
