PUPILS from Horsforth School showed their horticultural skills when their school took part in a gardening competition.
Enthusiasts from Horsforth School met town councillor Geoff Kneeshaw, who was judging in the town council’s school gardening competition.
As well as meeting pupils, Coun Kneeshaw looked round the school’s green areas, which include a mini orchard, fruit beds and an allotment.
The school’s allotment club, which was launched three years ago, is organised by design and technology teacher Kathy Carrara.
Sixth former Owen Taylor runs the club with pupil volunteers Hannah Childs, George Pearson and Helen Barraclough. Many other youngsters help with weeding, watering and planting.
The school said there were plans to become even more ecological and environmentally friendly in the future.
A spokesman said Coun Kneeshaw was very impressed with the gardens and the pupils’ efforts.
