Lessons on fire safety and the work of the emergency service were handed out to pupils at a special event.

Four firefighters from Ilkley fire station took one of their engines to visit Ghyll Royd School, in Burley-in-Wharfedale.

The four – firefighter Tony Short, watch manager Alex Watson and crew managers Domanic Dobson and Dwaine Atkinson – helped the children make fire action plans for their own homes, The children also enjoyed seeing teaching assistant Samrien Hussain dressed up in a firefighting suit and got the chance to inspect the fire engine, sit in the driver’s seat and look at the various pieces of equipment carried on-board.
