Storybooks are the inspiration for Ghyll Royd pupils

CHARACTERS from popular children’s stories inspired pupils at a Burley-in-Wharfedale school in a celebration of books.

A travelling book fair came to Ghyll Royd School, Greystone Manor, and pupils were invited to swap their school uniform for the day, instead choosing the costume of a character from one of their favourite books.

Children picked out characters from books by Charles Dickens, Enid Blyton, and other favourites, and turned up at school in costume for the day.

In our main picture, four-year-old Oliver Holmes took the role of his namesake from the Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist. Left, Max Broadley 6, as Enid Blyton character Mr Twiddle, Lillaby Morse, also 6, as Cinderella, and nine-year-old Niven Smith, 9, as Stig of the Dump.
