The old-established commercial and family hotel in Ilkley, the Wheat Sheaf, having undergone thorough repairs is now complete with hot and cold baths, large dining room fitted with electric bells and heated with hot water pipes. It has good stabling and fishing tickets are available.
An unusually heavy fall of snow accompanied by strong and gusty north east winds set in and increased in violence during the day. Pedestrian traffic became increasingly difficult and unpleasant, and few people ventured abroad except on the calls of urgent duty. Outgoing and incoming trains were all behind time. There were deep snow drifts in the valleys and even deeper ones on the moor.
A meeting of the Ilkley School Board was held and a report was received from the Shibden Industrial School in reference to an Ilkley lad who was said by the superintendent to be thoroughly reformed. It was therefore decided that he should be withdrawn.

The Ilkley Town Hall clock was illuminated for the first time on Thursday evening, but the electric light proved too bright for the figures to be distinctly seen except at close quarters.
Mr William Graham, late assistant in the Gateshead Free Library, entered upon his duties as Librarian at Ilkley on Monday. With the free library unfinished and nothing undertaken in the way of book purchasing, there is nothing yet of any moment for him to do, but he has compiled a suggestive list of books and in a day or two the work of stocking the library will be proceeded with.
At the annual sale of work in aid of the church missionary society the Rev Dr Munts said that next year was likely to be unique in the history of missionary enterprise as far as the Church of England was concerned. Canon Smith, Vicar of St Margaret's, and rural dean said that money was needed as well as men and women to carry on the work in foreign lands.

There was a terrible tragedy on the railway line immediately outside Ilkley Station on Thursday morning when Joseph Lightbody, a railway ganger of Railway Terrace, Ilkley, was killed. He was engaged in fitting cotter-pins and was at work on the down track leading to the station. Apparently the sound of a passing goods train prevented his hearing the approach of the passenger train from Bradford. The engine appears to have struck the man full on the head and body and he was dragged for some distance suffering such terrible injuries that he was dead when assistance reached him.
Amongst efforts being initiated from amongst the unemployed themselves is the provision of some form of Christmas celebration on December 29, which is to include high tea. A subscription list is being raised for this purpose and promises of gifts of meat and vegetables and other articles would be welcomed. It is hoped to provide tea for about 120.

Fires caused by unauthorised persons trespassing on Sun Lane Tip at Burley-in-Wharfedale had caused the Health Department some trouble and the ratepayers money, said the chairman at the monthly Ilkley Council meeting on Wednesday night. He warned that anyone caught causing fires on the tip would be rigorously prosecuted. There was no available water on the site and the men with the gully emptier had to obtain the water from another source.
There is to be no official Christmas tree at the top of Brook Street this year, though there will be at the Grange, Burley-in-Wharfedale, and Kirklands, Menston. At Ilkley, instead of a Christmas tree there will be provided in one of The Grove gardens a scene depicting reindeer, a sledge and Father Christmas and occupying a space about 15ft by 6ft. This will be illuminated

Several important archaeological discoveries have been made during excavations within the tower of Ilkley Parish church. One of the most interesting finds was an irregular shaped piece of stone possibly from a tombstone or an inscription built into the building, which bears two Latin inscriptions.
A member of the Yorkshire Electricity Board spoke about microwave cooking to the Ilkley Branch of the Electrical Association for Woman. Mrs Jennifer Marsh showed two films, the first set in the future which showed how much more appetising food looked in its natural state than in pill' form, and the second showed how quickly food cooked in a microwave oven compared to an ordinary oven. The films stressed that the microwave was ideal for quick cooking and emergencies.
