EVOCATIVE images of Ilkley Grammar School show a world that was soon to change for ever with the advent of war.
Taken in 1911 the main photograph shows scores of boys with bright futures ahead of them.
It is sad to consider how many of these young lives would have been lost during the First World War which began just three years later.
The pictures were sent in by Ilkley author Peter Higginbotham.
He said: “There are around 100 boys (girls were not admitted until 1939) and ten staff, with a solitary woman at their centre. The masters are wearing the then standard attire of gowns, while the boys are wearing suits with knickerbocker trousers and boots.”
The school celebrated in 400th anniversary in 2007.
