THIS haunting photograph of schoolchildren is believed to have been taken by E E Slater of Hopeville House, Yeadon. It is now in the archives of Aireborough Historical Society.

Archivist Carlo Harrison said: “Mr Slater used to host large garden parties for the members of the Methodist Church in Yeadon and for school children.

“I think what you can see here is a photograph taken around 1900 showing the girls of South View School, Yeadon, dressed magnificently in their Sunday best getting ready to go to the garden fete hosted by Mr Slater and his family. This would have been a major event in the lives of Yeadon children some 118 years ago.”

The second photograph is thought to have been taken at Addingham Gala.
