FAMILY ties link these two photographs taken many decades apart.

In the first, former Deputy Lord Mayor of Bradford Cllr David Harrison is pictured meeting Prince Philip during a Royal visit in about 2002.

In the second Mr Harrison’s grandfather, Charles Thresh, is one of those enjoying an event connected with Ilkley’s Black Hat versus White Hat cricket match.

Mr Harrison came forward with the picture of his grandfather, (seated third from the right) taken at the Kings Hall in 1923. He contacted the Ilkley Gazette after spotting him in a different photograph featured on March 22 this year.

“I recognised him immediately - actually I have seen that photograph before,” he said

“He was a tin smith and worked at Hothersall’s Ironmongers, down Leeds Road. He was quite well known in the town.”

Mr Thresh worked on munitions in Leeds during the First World War.

Mr Harrison was a councillor with Bradford Metropolitan Council from 1991 to 2003. He was also formerly landlord of The Fleece.

Both men were team captains in the Black Hat versus White Hat cricket match, which was first played in 1880.
