A ONCE bustling station was captured for posterity as it stood derelict prior to demolition.
Opened towards the end of the 19th Century, Yeadon Station was photographed during its final days in 1966. The pictures of the boarded up building and a steam locomotive brought back memories for thousands of people when they were displayed on Aireborough Historical Society’s website.
Archivist Carlo Harrison said: “It was a bit of a surprise when I posted this series of pictures about Yeadon station when a flood of over 2,000 people viewed the posting and there were a flood of memories of seaside trips by people as children from this station.”
The station, in Henshaw Lane, was built for goods trains, but excursions were laid on during holiday periods. The pictures were donated to AHS by Barbara Winfield.
