AN EVOCATIVE image of times gone by is captured in this photograph of Yeadon Carnival from 1910.

The picture, from the archives of Aireborough Historical Society, shows people thronging the streets to watch the parade go by.

Archivist Carlo Harrison said: "As you can see, the crowds may have been a bit bigger and many of the floats were horse drawn but an event just as this year enjoyed by many from Yeadon and the surrounding area.

"The Yeadon Carnival is a traditional event stretching back over 116 years and in days gone by was an important piece of entertainment in the lives of the local folk, usually ending up at the grounds of Yeadon Cricket Club at The White Swan for celebrations after the parade and into the evening."

A 24 hour darts competition at Addingham Cricket Club raised money in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind and a motor neurone disease charity.
