YEADON Dam (Tarn) was packed when this photograph was taken on a sunny day in the 1930s.
The picture, from the archives of the Aireborough Historical Society, looks across to Dam Lane. The shelter, which can be seen towards the left, was one of several dotted around the lake. Only one now remains, on the Cemetery Road side, and is used by model boat enthusiasts as a headquarters.
Historical Society archivist Carlo Harrison said: “The cost of parking a car here was a shilling, a large amount.
“This was and still is a popular destination for days out in the summer months, walking, teas, picnics, bathing, swimming and a band stand – a full day out for all the family in the 1930s.”
Ilkley Secondary School cricket team had enjoyed a successful season when this picture was taken in July 1963. Pictured are back row, left to right: Mr RW Parker, C Hill, M Owen, C Singleton, E Dixon, H Chapman, M Whitworth. Front row: R Fairbirn, A Peach, A Peach, A Dibb, E Hall, W Brown.
