WILLIAM Murgatroyd’s Moorfield Mill is clearly evident in this photograph dating back to 1955.
The mill, which is now the site of Murgatroyds fish and chip restaurant, can be clearly seen on the right hand side. The photograph shows a crossroads with Harrogate Road and Victoria Avenue, as well the very top of Yeadon High Street, with Bayton Lane in the foreground.
It is from the archives of Aireborough Historical Society, whose archivist Carlo Harrison said: “A friend of the Society who was a teenage boy in the Home Guard during the war tells me that the hut on the right hand side was the Picket hut used by the Home Guard during the Second World war.”
The second photograph shows Ilkley artist Graeme Willson. The photograph was taken in 1995.
