This picture of the Ilkley RUFC first team of the 1950s was rediscovered by team member Geoff Thompson, now of Knaresborough. 125 years ago A further portion of the Myddleton Estate, is to be placed on the market. No less than 32 lots will be offered, all of them affording special advantages to purchasers. Lots one to 10, consisting of plots of land with frontages to Leeds Road and Castle Road and abutting the Wharfe present most desirable sites for the erection of superior dwellings A number of ladies connected with the London Missionary Society's Zenana Mission held a meeting in the Congregational Sunday School Buildings, Riddings Road, Ilkley. A meeting was held in the adjoining church when after singing and prayer addresses having special references to the mission work in India were given.

125 years ago The celebrated Leviathan Minstrels will appear in the Assembly Rooms at Ilkley. This is the second visit of this company and an hour or so may be pleasantly passed. Ginnet's Circus will also pay a visit to the town with its stud of 80 horses, 20 ponies, mules, Jumbo's relations and various other animals.

125 years ago The members of Addingham Choir of the Weslyan Chapel had a very enjoyable trip to Harrogate. The party left the Swan Hotel in two waggonettes, the route taken being by Bolton. The weather was favourable with the exception of a few showers and the party returned via Otley, the outing having been thoroughly enjoyed.

125 years ago An entertainment was given in the Assembly Rooms, Ilkley, by boys belonging to the National Schools, the object of which was to render a little pecuniary help to Ilkley Cricket Club. There was a large audience present and the stage was occupied by 50 or 60 boys who rendered a very pleasing variety of musical and literary selections.

Hydropathic hotel gets its drinks licence in 1882

125 years ago Mr John Dobson, proprietor of the Troutbeck Hydropathic Establishment in Ilkley, made an application through a solicitor to magistrates, for a licence to sell beer, wine and sweets to be consumed on or off the premises. Mr Dobson had several times been asked to do so by visitors staying there, and it would be a great convenience to him. The licence was granted.

125 years ago The Ilkley Conservative Club in Cowpasture Road was opened. The new premises comprise a reading room, two capital billiard rooms, card-room, lavatory, bathroom, curator's room. The club sill supply a want long felt by the members of the Conservative Party in Ilkley and starts with every prospect of success.

125 years ago A code of rules for the guidance of visitors to Bolton Abbey has been issued. People are allowed to pass freely through the grounds to view the ruins, but they are earnestly requested to keep to the paths, not to linger in front of the hall and bath-ing in the river is strictly prohibited.Waggons and public omnibuses are not allowed in the woods and any person driving furiously will be prohibited from entering the woods again.

125 years ago By the kindness of Mr W Middelton the Bradford Historical and Antiquarian Society was enabled to visit Middelton Lodge in Ilkley. The party were shown different objects of interest in the grounds. Among these were three stones for grinding corn, an altar which had been taken out of the Wharfe and supposed to be of Saxon origin, dedicated to Verbeia, the Goddess of the Wharfe.

125 years ago Another special effort was made to still further reduce the debt of Saint Margaret's Church, Ilkley, which at present stands at around £2,500. The preacher was the Very Reverend Purey Cust, the Dean of York, who delivered two powerful discourses. At the close of each the Dean made a stirring appeal on behalf of the building fund.

125 years ago The subscribers to Ilkley Hospital may congratulate themselves that the most deserving institution is in a satisfactory condition at present. Two years ago there was a debit balance of £100 but now, thanks to the exertions of many friends there is a balance of £135 in hand.
