They are two of the greatest sporting champions the area has ever produced – and the Brownlee brothers remain hard-working and unassuming despite all the adulation that has come their way.

So it is no surprise that people in their home town and the village where they now live are determined to honour them.

Horsforth, where the brothers grew up, was proud host to a gold postbox in their wake of Alistair’s triumph in the London Olympics.

And now a pub has been renamed the Brownlee Arms in their honour.

Meanwhile in Bramhope, where the brothers now live, a statue has been put up as a permanent tribute to the village’s most famous residents.

Both places clearly feel admiration not just for their athletic achievements but also for their qualities as men.

Despite that fact that they are champion triathletes with a worldwide reputation Alistair and Jonathan are known for their hard work and their willingness to support their local communities.

They fully deserve the tributes that have been made.
