And they thanked the anonymous donor, who kindly offered to match the amount raised on the day - meaning this year’s total will exceed £2,000.

A coffee morning was held at Abbeyfield in Ilkley and teams of volunteers delivered coffees and teas to people working in 50 businesses in the town who would otherwise not be able to support the event.

In all over 60 businesses gave their support either in donations of cups and biscuits or by taking part and staff and parents at Ilkley Grammar School held their own coffee morning in support.

Ilkley fundraising committee chairman Chris Martinez said: “Over the years the coffee morning has become a real town event and I thank all those who have contributed so generously to make The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning such a popular and worthwhile occasion.”

YEADON

Local MP Greg Mulholland joined Macmillan Cancer Support fundraisers at their Biggest Coffee Morning in Yeadon Town Hall.

The charity's Otley & Wharfedale Fundraising Group laid on food, a tombola, homemade cakes, craftwork and more, alongside the hot drinks, at the event.

The group, which has raised £34,192 since forming in 2009, is hoping more people will follow Mr Mulholland's (Lib Dem, Leeds North West) example and lend a hand at future events.
