RACHEL O'CONNOR reviews the live gig by local band Mishkin at the Station, Guiseley DESPITE my age I was not alone in the oldies stakes when local band Mishkin decided to wake up the dead on their return to Guiseley on Saturday.
Their much awaited gig at the Station went down a storm and although my ears were ringing for quite some time afterwards here was a performance to enjoy.
Heavy might not be your scene but these guys have been great ambassadors for their country, twice travelling to China to headline festivals and at the same time getting involved in a whole range of musical experiences including teaching kids.
Their performances locally are now few and far between as the band has taken on professional status' so here was a real chance to catch them.
It is obvious these guys enjoy their music and enjoy performing and perform they certainly do.
All that posturing and hair swinging cannot hide the real musical talent this band has and mercurial lead singer Ben Davy cavorts from throat wrenching squealing to sweet harmony at the flick of his dreadlocks.
There is certainly much more to this band than meets the eye and if you are a little longer in the tooth - or a lot as in my case - don't let the words heavy metal put you off.
I would defy anyone not to have been swirled along by the pounding beat and amazing guitar work.
And that drum kit - wow. Unfortunately I had parents with more sensitive ears than mine and I was never allowed to venture past that accoustic guitar but one can always look on with envy!
There was so much to watch with each member of the band an entertainment on their own and so much music - yes music! - to enjoy.
But if you missed them this time at The Station then don't despair because you can catch them again on August Bank Holiday Monday when they take part in the Music Festival aimed at raising funds for Teenage Cancer Trust.
