Dual role is not so simple for Simon
Simon Monte
Simon Monte

As Simon Monte prepares for his latest role in The Grove and Rawdon's production of Jekyll and Hyde' in May, he could be forgiven for feeling that his character is somewhat two-faced!

Simon is taking on the demanding dual title roles of the piece, Dr Henry Jekyll and the much darker Edward Hyde.

"It's a very hard role to get right," said Simon, "luckily the characters are so different from each other and this makes life a little easier; if they were similar I think I might get a little confused who I was playing when!"

Although Simon is the mainstay of the show, at one point being alone on stage for some 20 minutes, he is ably backed up with strong principals and a fantastic ensemble.

Caroline Bright plays Jekyll's fiancé in what is her third role for the company having appeared in both Carousel' and Bat Boy'. Lisa Colman makes her debut for the company playing the ill-fated Lucy and her husband, Richard Lloyd, is playing Jekyll's long time friend and lawyer John Utterson.

Jekyll and Hyde' is based on Robert Louis Stevenson's story about a doctor whose experiments with human personality to create an evil and murderous counterpart. Convinced the cure for his father's mental illness lies in the separation of man's evil nature from his good, Dr Jekyll unwittingly unleashes his own dark side, wreaking havoc in the streets of late 19th-century London as the savage Edward Hyde.

Jekyll and Hyde' is pure, pulse-pounding theatre, with a lush, romantic score hailed as a modern classic even before the show began a smash-hit Broadway run.

Jekyll and Hyde' is yet another brave move by The Grove and Rawdon Theatre Company who are quickly making a name for themselves for innovating and demanding productions.

It is sure to be a great night's entertainment. The show runs at Yeadon Town Hall from May 13-17 at 7.30pm each evening. Tickets are available by calling the Box Office on 0700 0446267.
