Little Theatre ready for Ayckbourn’s ‘Roleplay’

With rehearsals now nearing an end the cast of Otley Little Theatre's next production are geared up to providing an entertaining and very amusing evening for what will hopefully be good audiences, supporting the first play the Society have been able to stage this season.

Alan Ayckbourn's Roleplay', produced by Roger Thomas, saw the casting throw up an interesting switch in role playing for Marjorie Inman and Gill Coverdale, mother and daughter in real life.

They appear as potential mother-in-law, Arabella Lazenby, and her son's intended wife, Julie-Ann.

Even though she has known her mother for a few more years than she may care to remember, Gill could not possibly imagine Marjorie would be the type of prospective mother-in-law she meets in this play!

Maybe they would get on better if Julie-Ann's fiancé-to-be, Justin, played by Paul Glover, had not become accidentally involved with a gangster's fleeing girl friend Paige.

For the part of Paige Tricia Commons has been learning new skills more of which will be revealed, literally, on stage.

She drops in on the party, pursued by her minder, Micky, played by Steve Millward whose last appearance was as the Dame in Otley Little Theatre's panto so he cannot claim to be typecast!

Add to the mix Justin's down to earth true Yorkshire, and proud of it, parents, Derek and Dee played by Nick Simpson and Lynda Whitehead.

They disapprove strongly of the kind of goings on you find in London and this could be heading for a party from hell.

How it all exactly works out, and not as you might imagine, can be seen by going along to Otley Civic Centre any evening between April 23 and 26 at 7.30pm.

Tickets priced at £6.50 or £5.50 for OAPs and under-16s are available from Waye's Travel Agents in Otley or by telephoning 01943 873865.
