AVIARIES at Cliffe Castle Park have been transformed into a Christmas grotto.

The aviaries provide a home for birds or other animals during the summer but are usually kept empty through the winter.

This year the Cliffe Castle Park Conservation Group were given permission by Bradford Council to use them for a seasonal display.

The volunteers have created Santa’s North Pole Workshop’ using decorations donated by Keighley Town Centre Management and other odds and ends.

A group spokesman said: “The display, on view until January 3, was inspired by our memories of department store grottos.

“We hope the display will likewise create a lot of happy memories.”

Cliffe Castle Park Conservation Group regularly organise activities in the park, including the annual teddy bears picnic, and also devised several guided walks around the park.

Members worked closely with Bradford Council on a successful bid for Heritage Lottery Fund cash to renovate the park’s Victorian features.
