Buildings on fire damaged waste site could be demolished

The Associated Waste Management site on Valley Road was gutted by fire in 2018, and the site has remained empty ever since.

An application to demolish structures on the site to “prepare it for redevelopment” has now been submitted to Bradford Council.

It would see a building on the site known as Consortium House flattened, along with a stretch of large wall that separates the former waste site from Valley Road.

The submission, by Oniel Construction (Yorkshire), comes after a planning application to build a sports centre and drive thru take away was refused by Bradford Council earlier this year.

The application to demolish the structures says: “The main reasons for demolition are that the building and wall is no longer fit for modern day use and or alteration.

“The site is being prepared for redevelopment and the building and wall are proving unsafe and requires immediate remedial work.”

The submission to Bradford Council is to see if a full planning application is needed, or if the work is “permitted development.”

Conservation Officer at Bradford Council Hannah Meekings has commented on the plans, saying: “The site does not form part of a listed building (or is located within the curtilage of a listed building) and is not within a conservation area. 

“Whilst it is very regrettable, it does not appear that there are grounds to request planning permission for the demolition." 

 A decision is expected later this month.
